Microfinance

The company started to work in the area of Microfinance right from its inception. The product MPower was created in a standalone mode. Today MPower uses a SQL Server database and can work in a multi-user environment.

Mpower is Syscon’s flagship product and used for operations of a NGO. It has the features for operating savings and loan products, capturing social parameters and generates a comprehensive set of MIS reports. The product caters to various Microfinance models like Self Help Group (SHG), Joint Liability Group (JLG), Individual and Cooperative.

Other products developed for this sector are SHG Accountant and SHG Tracker. SHG Accountant is used for tracking of SHG activities and is available in Oriya and English. SHG Tracker captures SHG information from a bank’s point of view to monitor the loans it has provided to the SHGs.

Syscon has a consulting program called Microfinance Capacity Enhancement Program (MCep) for NGOs and MFIs. Through this program, business planning, process strengthening, skills upgrade and performance monitoring initiatives are undertaken.  

Syscon is also involved in designing and production of Information Education and Communication (IEC) material for different media.  used in information dissemination. This is in the form of Information Education and Communication (IEC) material for different media.

Syscon has also embarked on activities related to MFI incubation program, livelihood security programs and MPower web hosting. Syscon aspires to become a one stop shop for all MFI systems requirements.......TOP

Software

A number of software projects have been undertaken by the company. Notably three large projects in the area of document and content management system including digital archiving have been done.

An archival system for storing of information from newspapers was designed and built for the Ministry of Information, Government of Bangladesh. The system maintains information of newspaper reports, articles and clippings for the past thirty years. The information is categorised and search facilities are available. Once the relevant item is found, the user can click on the link to access the scanned image of the newspaper item.   The system was built using Oracle technology including warehousing tools. Java was used as the language for development.

An Enterprise Digital Asset Management System (EDAM) system has been developed for a customer in USA. The system provides facilities to manage a document asset through its lifecycle of development. Along with features of document management, archiving and searching, it also has a robust workflow mechanism for collaborative working on an asset. The system has been developed on Java and the database used is Post GRE SQL.

A digital Archive has been developed for Durbar Mahila Samannay Committee (DSMC), and the programme was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. The system is used for documenting the assets created by DSMC in its work related to AIDS awareness and prevention. The system is accessible over the internet and will be used for information dissemination. The products used for development are PHP and MySQL.

A large variety of accounting and MIS systems has been developed for Government entities at the state, district and block levels. Software applications have also been developed for the private sector which includes comprehensive systems for hotels, restaurants, educational institutions and nursing homes.......TOP

Multimedia

Syscon has a team of multimedia professionals who have expertise in working on development tools like 3D Max, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Macromedia flash, etc. Multimedia extends beyond software whereby the team’s objective is to help an organisation develop an identity. It includes consulting, design, development of websites, logo, stationary, brochures, etc.

Interactive CD presentations have been a popular service from Syscon. The company has also developed interactive 3D games.

Quick Time Virtual Reality (QTVR)

QTVR is being extensively used for providing lightweight 3D interactive pictures on websites. The technology enables the creation of 3D Graphics images by stitching together photographs. It results into a 3D virtual experience for the user. The difference with a video clip is that this technology creates a much smaller sized clip which improves performance of the site........TOP

Consulting

Consulting is involved in most of the projects that the company carries out, be it a large software applications development or the MCep programme for the Microfinance sector. At the same time, the company has started to undertake significant consulting assignments.

The Draft Development Plan for South Dumdum Municipality is a case in point. It is an initiative of the Kolkata Urban Services for the Poor (KUSP) project. The study emphasised on a participatory approach of the stakeholders for development planning of the municipal area. This study was mandatory for the municipality for securing funds from agencies like DFID. Ernst and Young was the appraiser for the project and Syscon scored high marks on the quality of the delivery.

The company aims to provide consulting services for the Government, Social and Corporate sectors. It works with organisations in a consortium mode to seek coverage of all required skills.........TOP
